"The Fruit of Our Labour" is a piece that celebrates the Manx landscape. It was made for the Hodgson Loom Gallery's Open Exhibition (theme: fruit) and was designed to incorporate as many artistic skills as I could reasonably fit into the piece.
It is therefore not only a celebration of the Manx landscape — of the soil, the farmers who live here, the culture, and the history — but also of the many years I've spent exploring and honing my artistic skills.
The showcased range of skills includes (but is not limited to) impressionist art, miniature painting, sculpting, sewing, design, knitting, book binding, paper quilling, and woodwork. It took approximately 80 hours to create and would at an hourly wage be valued at around £1,000. The piece is currently for sale at the Hodgson Loom Gallery (Laxey, Isle of Man) at 50% of the estimated value plus gallery commission.
